Інструктори ВОУ відвідали Україну в січні 2016 року для надання допомоги новим групам на орієнтаційних зустрічах і проведення консультації з українськими партнерами проекту. Інструктори ВОУ поїдуть в Україну ще раз у вересні 2016 року та в січні 2017 року. ВОУ і українські інструктори на сьогоднішній день навчили дев'ять курсів, що складаються з 138 державних службовців (більш ніж 100 запланованих на період реалізації проекту). Ті, що навчаються прийшли з 41 державної організацій, що беруть участь у створенні національної ІПД. |

Українська національна інфраструктура просторових даних (ІПД) є ключем до ефективного управління ресурсами та створення сучасної сталої економіки. ІПД дає можливість проводити інвентаризацію і моніторинг сільськогосподарських угідь, лісів та водних ресурсів, що дозволяє підвищити ефективність урядової політики і оптимізувати процес прийняття рішень органами влади. Успішна реалізація ІПД вимагає наявності державних службовців, які підготовлені до переходу до роботи з геопросторових даними у цифровому форматі. |

Партнерами програм розвитку Канадського міністерства закордонних справ, торгівлі і розвитку були обрані канадські університети, що беруть активну участь у міжнародних проектах з підтримки розвитку. Університет Ванкувер Айленд (Канада) та його партнери, Київський національний університет імені Тараса Шевченка (Україна) і Національний технічний університет України «Київський політехнічний інститут» (Україна) запропонували освітню програму для органів виконавчої влади України з метою підтримки розвитку Національної інфраструктури просторових даних (НІПД). |

A Ukrainian National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) is the key to effectively managing resources and building a modern sustainable economy. An NSDI permits agricultural land, forests, infrastructure, and water resources to be inventoried and monitored, allowing more effective government policies to be developed, and improves decision making within the Ukrainian civil service. A successful NSDI requires civil servants who are prepared for the transition to a digital Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). |

SDI-01: Elements of Geographic Information SystemsThis course is an overview of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In this course, we look at the various technologies that make Geoscience possible, including Ground-based Mapping, Global Positioning Systems, and Satellite and Aircraft-based Remote Sensing. We discuss the way these data are organized in GIS, and the various GIS packages that are available, including Commercial and Open Source options. |

As part of a large, nation-wide project to develop a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), the country of Lithuania’s National Lands Service contracted Vancouver Island University to develop nine GIS courses. These courses were to provide civil servants with a set of geomatic tools and techniques that would strengthen Lithuania’s geographic information infrastructure at the local and national levels. Over 180 GIS professionals from various ministries and local governments participated in the training program, which was delivered over a 1-year period from May, 2007 to May, 2008. |
