VIU's Got Talent 2023

VIU’s Got Talent is an annual event held at Vancouver Island University where students and faculty have the opportunity to display their talents.
Students will audition and selected contestants will be invited to compete on the VIU’s Got Talent stage. Auditions will be held through individuals sending in video clips of their talents, and selected contestants will be invited to compete in the finals. During the finals, contestants will have 8-10 minutes to perform their talent in front of a panel of judges and a live audience. The judges will then select the top three performances as winners of the top prizes.

On Bach’s Chaconne for Solo Violin

The famous Bach Chaconne for solo violin is a monumental piece of music. This presentation will give some background about the piece and the various nuances, interpretations, and performance practices that musicians consider when playing/performing the piece. It will also discuss some of the difficulties and intrinsic technical details that make this piece particularly difficult to pull off, as well as how to overcome some of those difficulties. The presentation will culminate with a performance of the piece.

A high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture. Acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Driving Me Crazy is about a family and their relationships with each other as experienced via their vehicles. Inspired by stories from three generations, Driving Me Crazy, follows Liz, a grandmother fighting to keep her driver’s license, her independence and her voice in society. Liz is surrounded by her family: a son and daughter-in-law who are addicted to their cars, a granddaughter who is passionate about the environmental fight against oil guzzling vehicles, and a grandson on his way to learn hard lessons about drinking and driving. Anyone who has driven a car, been driven in a car, or been driven mad by their own family will laugh, cry and gasp.
