Our program stresses the complementary and mutual relationship between understanding historical, social, political, economic, and aesthetic contexts within which media industries and practices develop and operate and the technical, creative and professional skills necessary for hands-on careers and entrepreneurism in today’s evolving creative sectors.

General VIU admission requirements apply.

Students completing this certificate concurrent with and embedded within a VIU degree or diploma do not need to apply to this program. They should let their degree or diploma advisor, program coordinator, or the Registration Centre know of their intention.

The Certificate comprises 18 credits for the six courses listed below (3 credits each).

Courses

ILMC 100 (3): Community and Indigenous Lands Planning (online)
An examination of historic and current issues relevant to Indigenous land use and community planning. This includes Indigenous Treaty Rights and Title, historic and modern treaty issues, and evolving trends in planning.
Prerequisite: Min. “C” in English 12.

Given ongoing levels of population growth, construction, land development, and environmental protection initiatives occupations that benefit from a knowledge of land management will remain in demand into the foreseeable future.

Course Structure

ILMC 100 must be taken first, then ILMC 110, ILMC 120, ILMC 130, and ILMC 140 can be taken in any order. ILMC 150 requires the completion of all five online courses before the student is able to register in ILMC 150. ILMC 150 is also an online course.

The credits provided through this Certificate can be used for undergraduate credit at Vancouver Island University, enabling students to ladder the skills and experiences gained through this Certificate into an undergraduate degree.

The credits provided through this Certificate can be used for undergraduate credit at Vancouver Island University, enabling students to ladder the skills and experiences gained through this Certificate into an undergraduate degree.

From Fifth Street, turn into entrance 5D. Parking Lot G is highlighted below in yellow; it is an Employee lot that is available for guest parking after 5pm Monday to Friday and all day on weekends and holidays. It costs $2.50 for each 2 hours of parking and can be accessed through the App or a parking terminal.
