Grades September 30, 2019 - 12:21pm

Semester grades must be entered into VIU's Student Record System within 5 days of the last day of exams, using the Grade Entry screen on the web and standard Grade values. If a grade has not been submitted by an instructor within this time frame, a grade of NGS (No Grade Submitted), will be entered by Registration.

Syllabi seem to vary in two fundamental areas—the apparent reason for writing the syllabus and the material that it contains. The purpose of the syllabus should drive the decision as to what content to include (Parkes & Harris, 2002).

Three major purposes that a syllabus should serve are described by Parkes and Harris:

  • Syllabus as a contract
  • Syllabus as a permanent record
  • Syllabus as a learning tool

Accounts Receivable will preload the charge to the student record. 

The students then will pay via online banking.

The Student Assignment Drop Box is located on the 3rd floor of B356. It is to be used as a last resort for students to drop off assignments that cannot be submitted during class or office hours, or by special arrangements.

Please inform students about this option for submitting assignments in your course outlines, put this poster on your office door, or explain the practice in class.

How to send a message to the Social Sciences DLs (distribution lists) when you are off Campus and logged in to your Outlook webmail: September 27, 2019 - 12:06pm

1. Log in to webmail.viu.ca

2. Click on "NEW" to create new message.

3. Then click on "TO" to address your message.

4. Enter the distribution list name followed by @viu.ca. e.g. DL_Soc_Sci_Faculty@viu.ca

Note: Those are underscores _ and not hyphens - in the list name.

Some of you have been asking for instructions on how to send an email message to your class list(s) from an off-campus or home computer. (You can use this same method on campus, as well). Using the handy srsmail system is a secure way of sending messages to your class list(s) without exposing the names/email addresses of the other students in your class(es). 

***IMPORTANT NOTE: When sending class list messages from home, you must be logged in to VIU Webmail.***

VIU Employee ID card and Library Access September 27, 2019 - 12:06pm

Your VIU Card (employee ID) is also your library card, security access, and can be loaded with funds for the cafeteria. The card can be activated at the library or on-line (online activation requires 24 hours). The library card is required for borrowing from the Library collections and will also allow you to access VIU's online articles and interlibrary loan services. If you are teaching at Cowichan or Powell River, please contact local library staff regarding access to their campus libraries.

Computer Accounts and Usernames September 27, 2019 - 12:06pm

Computer accounts and usernames are automatically created by Human Resources when an appointment has been created or when requested by a faculty or department.

Your employee account is used for secure access to other VIU resources such as all policies and procedures, VIULearn (learning management system), class lists, grade entry, VIUTube (video streaming and storage system), and WordPress (blogging and website software).
