The author of six books, Robert J. Wiersema grew up in a small town in southwestern British Columbia (about an ninety minutes east of Vancouver), which he fled as soon as he could, moving to Victoria where he studied English Literature at the University of Victoria, with a focus on contemporary Canadian writing and post-structuralist literary theory. Wiersema’s first novel Before I Wake (2006) was a bestseller, a Globe and Mail Best Book, and has been published in a dozen countries. His novella, The World More Full of Weeping, was shortlisted for the Aurora Award. |

BiographySonnet L'Abbé, PhD was born in Toronto and spent their childhood in Calgary, in rural Manitoba, and in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. They got a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Video from York University and a Master's in English Literature at the University of Guelph, then spent time teaching English in South Korea. They wrote two books of poetry, A Strange Relief and Killarnoe, and worked in media relations and issues management before deciding to get their PhD in English Literature at UBC. |

Susan Juby’s novels have been published all over the world and won and been nominated for many awards. The Republic of Dirt won the Leacock Medal for Humour in 2016 and The Truth Commission won the Sheila Egoff/BC Book Award and the Amy Mathers Award for teen fiction in 2016. She was nominated for the Amazon/Books in Canada First Novel Award, and an Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America. |

Robert Hilles was born in Kenora Ontario and graduated from the University of Calgary with a MSc. He was active in the writing scene in Calgary for over 30 years and was the Managing Editor of Dandelion Magazine for ten years. He moved to the west coast in 2001 and lives in Nanaimo. He has a daughter and a son and two granddaughters. He won the Governor General’s Award for Poetry for Cantos From A Small Room and his novel, Raising of Voices, won George Bugnet Award. Wrapped Within Again: New and Selected poems, won the Stephan Stephansson Award. |

Gugeler has acquired and edited over 100 literary and young adult titles for ECW, Raincoast, and Beach Holme presses, publishing dozens of award-winning authors including Bill Gaston, Michael Crummey, Diane Warren, Steven Galloway, Adam Schroeder, Patrick Friesen, Eric Walters and John Wilson. She currently edits annual titles in the Ralph Gustafson Distinguished Poets Lecture series for VIU. In 2001 she co-founded the Canadian Book Camp in Vancouver for children aged 11 to 16 and was on the board of the Red Cedar Award 2006-13. |

Lindsay RichardsLindsay, a major in Geoscience, entered the map 'Modelled Shadow Depth at Vancouver Island University'. This map was completed as part of his course work for Remote Sensing (GEOG 326), assessing various presentations of LiDAR data for designing solar-powered homes. Lindsay went a step further to create a model showing true location of shadows throughout the day, which could be used to predict where a solar installation might be shaded. |
