Art Escape

After a year of taking studio art classes online, with all the challenges those unique circumstances brought, the eleven students in this year’s graduating student exhibition Escape Artists, hit the ground running last September - challenging themselves in the final year of their VIU undergraduate degree, both creatively and academically to produce the diverse collection of artworks we see in the Gallery today.

Works in painting, drawing, sculpture and digital illustration show a diversity of approach that uses material, colour, line, and form to express a breadth of ideas that highlight the fruits of their individual artistic practices and research.

The talented group students sharing their artwork with us in Escape Artists;
Elisha De Groot, Brooklyn Haight, Christina Lum, Andrew Ninatti, Anthony Ninatti, Marjorie Pelkey, Alex Staniforth, Shaina Richelle, Makenna Stobbe, Alex Waite, and Dominique Wright have shown themselves to be resilient, hardworking, courageous and good-humoured in seeing their graduating projects through to the exciting conclusions we see here.
