Sandbagged Monument.

A temporary public sculpture by Cindy Stelmackowich and students from VIU's Visual Art Program -Happy Amarkah, Grace Comeau, Darcie-Li Morrison, Ivy Miller, and Cass Vachon

Responding to events currently taking place in the Ukraine, Cindy Stelmackowich has created a piece that celebrates the resiliency of the Ukrainian people. Over the last year, museum professionals in the Ukraine, enlisting the help and support of an army of volunteers, began building sandbag buttresses to protect their national monuments - part of their cultural identity - from the military assault of their Russian Neighbours. These actions are taking place all over the country wherever there are works of public art.
